   Protestant   Catholic Hindu Moslem Buddhist

Indonesia recognizes five religions Protestant, Catholic, Hindu, Moslem and Buddhist and it is possible for couples to be legally married in Indonesia who follow one of these five religions with the religious ceremony based on the couples’ religion. A Protestant couple will have a Protestant Wedding Ceremony with a Protestant Minister, a Catholic couple a Catholic Wedding Ceremony with a Catholic Priest, a Hindu Couple a Hindu Ceremony with a Hindu Priest, a Moslem couple with a Penghulu and Buddhist couple a Buddhist Ceremony and a Buddhist Priest.

If a couple would like a Protestant Ceremony and one of the couple is Catholic then it is still possible for the couple to marry with a Protestant Ceremony and it is also possible for a Catholic couple to marry under the Protestant Religion.  For a Catholic, Hindu & Buddhist wedding ceremony the couple must both be of the same religion and of the religion they are choosing to marry under and if one of the couple is not then will need to convert to that religion prior to the couple’s ceremony taking place.

Excluding a Moslem Ceremony which is officiated by Department Agama (Department of Religion), Kantor Urusan Agama (KUA), a legal wedding ceremony here in Bali consists of two ceremonies. Firstly the religious ceremony which is officiated by a representative of the couples chosen religious ceremony type and secondly the Civil Ceremony officiated by Kantor Capatan Cipil (Civil Registry Office) and it is not possible to have one ceremony without the other. Both ceremonies will normally take place consecutively unless otherwise arranged at the couples chosen location. The religious ceremony normally has duration of 15 – 20 minute’s depending on the type of ceremony and text content chosen ending with the minister asking the groom bride and two witnesses to come forward and sign their wedding certificates.  Once presentation has been made to the couple of their religious wedding certicate the Civil Ceremony will then commence which has duration of 10 minutes ending with the couple and two witnesses signing legal documentation issued from the Civil Registry Office.

If set text is not relevant to the couples chosen religious ceremony type then we will be able to provide various types of text for the couple to select from for their ceremony, such as religious text for those couples wanting a more religious component attached to their ceremony to more spiritual text for those couples not wanting a religious component attached to the ceremony with the couple being able to make changes, such as adding in a poem or personal vow and ring exchange should the bride and groom wish to personalize their ceremony, making the ceremony quite special and memorable to the both of them.
